(I don't really own any hats besides the one I have to wear at work, and my niece picked out my dad's bike helmet to choose from. And yes, those are purple horns sticking out - don't ask.)

Who Wants A Free Book?
Miracles Really Do Happen
But then last week she watched Twilight, and you can guess what happened next.....
Yes, that's right....
My sister read the book!
And now she's on New Moon. I even have documented proof that she is reading:
She wouldn't show her face for this, and then called me a dork for actually taking it. But anywho, thank you Stephenie Meyer for getting my sister to read!
Now only if she'd read the stuff that I write...*hint hint nudge nudge*

Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea by Chelsea Handler
Released: September 2007
Publisher: Regan Books
Genre: Adult - Humor - Memoir
Pages: 264
Source: Library
Rating: ♥♥♥♥
When Chelsea Handler needs to get a few things off her chest, she appeals to a higher power -- vodka. You would too if you found out that your boyfriend was having an affair with a Peekapoo or if you had to pretend to be honeymooning with your father in order to upgrade to first class. Welcome to Chelsea's world -- a place where absurdity reigns supreme and a quick wit is the best line of defense.
In this hilarious, deliciously skewed collection, Chelsea mines her past for stories about her family, relationships, and career that are at once singular and ridiculous. Whether she's convincing her third-grade class that she has been tapped to play Goldie Hawn's daughter in the sequel to Private Benjamin, deciding to be more egalitarian by dating a redhead, or looking out for a foulmouthed, rum-swilling little person who looks just like her...only smaller, Chelsea has a knack for getting herself into the most outrageous situations.
Chelsea Handler reminds me of a female version of Bob Saget. And no, I'm not talking about the dad on Full House that hung out with hot Uncle Jessie (even with the mullet) version here. So if very crude and in your face hold nothing back humor is something that doesn't appeal to you - do not pick this book up. If it does, well then sit back and have a good laugh.
After reading her first book, My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One Night Stands, I was pretty excited to get my hands on this one. The book itself doesn't have a storyline at all. Each chapter is kind of like a short stand up, and most of them were pretty hilarious. I was kind of disappointed that some of the chapters were a little more dull compared to her first book. And by the title I expected a little more crazy drunken stories. By the middle of the book though, the tears were rolling, and I was laughing out loud. There are some pretty crazy scenarios in here, and every chapter that involved any of her friends had me completely rolling. The quick witted humor is another thing, half of the dialogue is something that catches you so off guard all you can do is laugh. All in all the book was a pretty good read and if she were to write another one, I'd still be pumped to read it.
Although I didn't find the book as hilarious as the first, I think there should be some sort of warning label about busting out in hysteria laughter. So for my public service announcement, do not read either one of these books out in public. Especially if you are sitting in a waiting room at the dentist office like I was when I read the first book. Believe me, you get some strange looks.

Books Ahoy!'s Giveaway!
Wake by Lisa McMann
Pub. Date: December 2008
Age Range: Young Adult
Not all dreams are sweet.
For seventeen-year-old Janie, getting sucked into other people's dreams is getting old. Especially the falling dreams, the naked-but-nobody-notices dreams, and the sex-crazed dreams. Janie's seen enough fantasy booty to last her a lifetime.
She can't tell anybody about what she does -- they'd never believe her, or worse, they'd think she's a freak. So Janie lives on the fringe, cursed with an ability she doesn't want and can't control.
Then she falls into a gruesome nightmare, one that chills her to the bone. For the first time, Janie is more than a witness to someone else's twisted psyche. She is a participant....
Ok. . . I really loved the plot. Really loved the characters. This was really original and I read it in one day. Here's the thing. The format was not something I liked. I'm not really one of those people who like the "diary format". It starts to get irritating after awhile. So this little problem kept making it hard for me to finish. But because I loved the plot and Janie and Cabel, I HAD to finish. I'll be buying Fade asap, but I know already that its written the same way. Now if I feel this way about how its written, and still find it as a really awesome book, that means Lisa McMann has a wonderful imagination. I'll put aside how I feel about the way it was written just to not miss the story.
The only reason I'm giving this a Four Bookworms review is because of the format. Otherwise, it would get a Five Bookworm review. =(

Cheryl and Amber Discuss Going Too Far by Jennifer Echols
And now without further a do, let's start talking about this must read!
Title: Going Too Far
Author: Jennifer Echols
Genre: Young Adult
Pages: 245
All Meg has ever wanted is to get away. Away from high school. Away from her backwater town. Away from her parents who seem determined to keep her imprisoned in their dead-end lives. But one crazy evening involving a dare and forbidden railroad tracks, she goes way too far… and almost doesn’t make it back.John made a choice to stay. To enforce the rules. To serve and protect. He has nothing but contempt for what he sees as childish rebellion, and he wants to teach Meg a lesson she won’t soon forget. But Meg pushes him to the limit by questioning everything he learned at the police academy. And when he pushes back, demanding to know why she won’t be tied down, they will drive each other to the edge—and over…
Amber: Amen!
Cheryl: And let’s see, Jennifer’s writing was very understandable and easy to get caught up in. She was explanatory without leaving the feel of a story, if that makes sense.
Amber: I loved how any back story was never an actual back story. You were never kicked out of the moment, everything stayed together perfectly.
Cheryl: It was spread out until the end which I LOVED!
Amber: It was like watching a movie. I was like holy crap one second, laughing my butt off the next, and then…*sighs*
Cheryl: It was 100% like watching a movie.
Amber: It should be a movie. And Garrett Hedlund should be John. I’d love to see him in uniform *wink wink*
Cheryl: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Cheryl: My likes about Meg is mostly what yours are and I like how she doesn’t care what anyone really thinks either. She doesn’t deny who she is. I think my dislikes honestly was the blue hair. Just not my type of thing.
Amber: Yea, I didn’t really picture her with blue hair, and was kind of surprised she had it. I loved her voice too. From the beginning of the book with that one line, “That’s the worst idea I have ever heard,” I told Eric. Then I took another sip of beer and swallowed. “Let’s do it.” – You had an idea of who she was right off the bat.
Amber: Now….how about Officer After?
Cheryl: Hehe
Amber: Character whore!
Cheryl: YES! Ok…there was nothing I didn’t like about him. Even though if I knew him, I would probably kick him – cause of that annoying obsession with the train which completely made sense at the end. And honestly, that obsession couldn’t be taken away because it built his character up.
Amber: Completely! And that temper of his, I loved it!
Cheryl: Well, how can you not love his temper? He’s gorgeous and gets mad when things don’t go his way, and not in a jerk off kind of way either.
Amber: And his famous line – “Do not touch me while I’m in uniform!”
Cheryl: Yes! I loved when he says that and so means it even when he sees his friends.
Amber: His friends were perfectly written – Will and Rashad cracked me up!
Amber: Omg, he was such a douche! I really liked Tiffany. She wasn’t your typical goody good girl like most best friends are portrayed.
Cheryl: She’s honest and innocent, but not in a child type of way. She seems like a good friend and a good person. You can tell she works hard to succeed.
Page 166 - “All right,” I said. “But for now on, every time you show me a dead body, I’m having sex with Eric.”

Ink Exchange by Melissa Marr + Tattoo Picture

Rating: ♥♥♥♥
Unbeknownst to mortals, a power struggle is unfolding in a world of shadows and danger. After centuries of stability, the balance among the Faery Courts has altered, and Irial, rule of the Dark Court, is battling to hold his rebellious and newly vulnerable fey together. If he fails, bloodshed and brutality will follow. Seventeen-year-old Leslie knows nothing of faeries or their intrigues. When she is attracted to an eerily beautiful tattoo of eyes and wings, all she knows is that she has to have it, convinced it is a tangible symbol of changes she desperately craves for her own life. The tattoo does bring changes - not the kind Leslie has dreamed of, but sinister, compelling changes that are more than symbolic. Those changes will bind Leslie and Irial together, drawing Leslie deeper and deeper into the faery world, unable to resist its allures, and helpless to withstand its perils...
This book is a follow up/companion/sequel - whatever you want to call it - to Wicked Lovely. In the first book I became quite attached to the main characters of Aislinn, Keean, and Seth. I wasn't for sure how I felt about the second book being about new ones and this new story for it. Just like the first one, I easily slipped into the world that was created and loved it all over again!
I really liked Leslie's character. She's gone through some horrible things and she puts on this front that everything is okay. Even though you know she's not at the same time you know the girl is still tough. What I really enjoyed was that Leslie had no clue of the world that her best friend was now involved in. It was interesting to see how Aislinn acted around her. Parts where you knew faeries were around, but Leslie had no idea. It had been a while since I had read Wicked Lovely (and my memory sucks by the way), and Marr did a good way of kind of telling what was going on without drawing it out.
Now let's discuss boys here. There is Niall, who I loved. And then there is Irial ,who I also loved. I wasn't for sure which one I was rooting for more. The way the book is written, you get so caught up in the feelings involved in the characters. Both of them obviously care for her, but in the end, I chose Niall. Sorry Irial.
Here is the thing that I am quickly learning and loving about Melissa Marr. You cannot guess how her books are going to end. Well, okay, maybe some of you can, but I can't. In Wicked Lovely, I was convinced I knew how the story was going to end. So and so was going to get with so and so, and the other ones were just going to be left in the dark. (<--That's me trying not to give away any spoilers in case you haven't read the first book.) With Ink Exchange, I kept thinking of every way the book was going to end, and once again wham! Did not see that ending coming at all!
Now I'm all on pins and needles wondering what she has in store in the next installment. I really hope this isn't the last we see of Leslie, but I know things are just going to get more interesting in the Faerie Courts!
And in light of the book being about tattoos, I thought I would show off my very first one that I got Saturday night!
I'm still pretty giddy about it, and to answer anyone that asks: Yes, it hurt. But for the most part it was a tolerable pain. Only in a few spots that only lasted a few seconds was I thinking 'holyfriggincrapstopstop!'.

Since we started this blog, I've been going a little book buying crazy lately - which is NOT a bad thing at all! Here is what I bought that came in this week:
Something, Maybe by Elizabeth Scott
Everyone thinks their parents are embarrassing, but Hannah knows she's got them all beat. Her dad made a fortune showcasing photos of pretty girls and his party lifestyle all over the Internet, and her mom was once one of her dad's girlfriends and is now the star of her own website. Of course, that doesn't help her get noticed by her crush. Hannah's sure that gorgeous, sensitive Josh is her soul mate. But trying to get him to notice her; wondering why she suddenly can't stop thinking about another guy, Finn; and dealing with her parents make Hannah feel like she's going crazy. Yet she's determined to make things work out the way she wants -- only what she wants may not be what she needs....

Born Blue by Han Nolan
Janie...Leshaya...whatever she's called...she's a survivor. Rescued from the brink of death, this child of a heroin addict has seen it all: revolving foster homes, physical abuse, an unwanted pregnancy. Now her childhood is coming to an end, and she is determined to make a life for herself by doing the only thing that makes her feel whole...singing. Can this girl, born to a life of hardship, find the strength and courage to break away from her past and become the legend she is meant to be?
I also picked up the first volume in the Night World series. I own Volume Two already, but for some crazy reason when I bought it, I thought it was Volume One...yea, blonde moment right there. I would LOVE to say that I also got a copy of Going Too Far by Jennifer Echols and the first copy of Something, Maybe (I got one for me, one for the contest)...but noooo, Barnes & Noble just wants to torture me by not shipping it yet! *shakes fist*
Also from the library...that I really should stay away from due to the over-growing pile of books and my habit of never returning anything on time, I got:

When you have an opening such as: And on the sixth day, God created Nick Hoffman's voice, Liz Phair's lyrics, Kurt Cobain's angst, and Lenny Kravitz's guitar licks. And he saw that it was good. So He just said, "Screw it...tomorrow I'm resting." I'm pretty much sold to keep reading.
The beginning of this story sucked me in. Livy's character is your average teen girl who has a dream of being a writer. You can already tell that her life was not normal having to deal with a dad who's sobriety is like a roller coaster and a mom who has to be there taking care of him every second so he can function. This doesn't bother her too much because you know right away she is a very independent girl. That's what I liked most about her is that her head was on her shoulders.
Her best friend Cammie blended well with the story. She's the girl who doesn't know the lifestyle of rock stars and is on a mission to loose her virginity to one of the guitarist from The Babydolls. Then there were the boys from the band The Wolves. Nick Hoffman is right away the kind of rocker that makes me drool and an added bonus he's Irish. *swoooon* Along with him is his best friend Kai who is mellow and laid back just like Nick.
The idea for the story is mainly for Livy to find out what happened the night her dad's band broke up and in the mix make sure she doesn't get caught up with the whole rock n' roll lifestyle. And the first part of the book had it. The music (which was all excellent band choices by the way) you could hear in your head, you could see all the characters, and then somewhere along the way it all just...faded. Halfway through the middle for me the characters started sounding the same. The "romance" with Livy and Nick to me lacked feeling. It describes how Livy is feeling, but it was like I was being told rather than being able to get swept in it. Which is crazy because the beginning had me hooked! Then the characters started sounding alike and some became kind of bland. The story wasn't a bad one, but it just lost its' touch. I still liked how it ended and everything, but overall the book was just okay. Didn't love it, but I didn't hate it either.

The lovely Jennifer Echols' book--which I've been waiting so so patiently to arrive--showed up at my door step this morning. Thank You Jennifer!!
I have only one other autographed book and that is from actor Denis Leary. Now that was an awesome moment in my life, but he isn't an author. He isn't a YA author. So this, well this is my very first--and pray not last--book sighed by not only a author, but one I couldn't wait to read one of her books.

Zara collects phobias the way other high school girls collect lipsticks. Little wonder, since life’s been pretty rough so far. Her father left, her stepfather just died, and her mother’s pretty much checked out. Now Zara’s living with her grandmother in sleepy, cold Maine so that she stays “safe.”
Zara doesn’t think she’s in danger; she thinks her mother can’t deal. Wrong. Turns out that guy she sees everywhere, the one leaving trails of gold glitter, isn’t a figment of her imagination. He’s a pixie—and not the cute, lovable kind with wings. He’s the kind who has dreadful, uncontrollable needs. And he’s trailing Zara.
♥Amber's Review
This will probably be the most bi-polar review I've done so far. I was very interested in this book - not just for the cover alone, but the story sounded very mysterious like and something that I would love. From the beginning it didn't grab me like I expected it too. Zara's character wasn't one that I really cared for at first. And yes, I get it, you're in Maine and it's cold. The writing structure of the book was another thing that I really didn't care for. One moment things would flow together and then everything got super choppy.

Cheryl's Review
I’m definitely a girl who is attracted by book covers. And I’m happy that I caught a glimpse of this one.
Zara, right off the bat was someone that not only can I relate to, but really was interested in learning more about. Her way of “coping” was so unique and interesting and completely cool! Carrie’s characters were typical in a not-so-typical sort of way, which was enjoyable.
There’s the grandmother, Betty, who I really wish I could steal and keep her as my own. She’s fun, energetic and really lets Zara be Zara and deal with her issues on her own terms. Plus she was kick ass funny!!
Then there’s Issie and Devyn. Issie, who I just loved, made me want to hug her and ask her to be my friend. She was sweet, innocent and thoughtful. Her friendship was genuine, that was obvious, and every time I think of her, I think of bunnies. When you read the book, you’ll get that lol. Devyn’s character (without saying too much) just was happy, no matter what situation was given. I really liked that.
Now the best saved for last….Nick. *sighs* Mysterious, gorgeous, athletic and a heavy hero complex. What more would you possibly ask from a guy? I know I wouldn’t ask for anything more!! Nick brings something to this story that was completely unexpected. That’s all I’m saying on him. Otherwise, I’ll give too much away! =D
I do have to agree with Amber about the short sentences. I know they are good and even needed at times, but it was a bit overdone in this book.
And what is this comparison to Twilight? I don’t get why every book that involves paranormal or some type of fantasy that happens to involve teens and possible attractions always gets compared to Twilight. I so far have not found one book--vampires involved or not--that even remotely reminded me of Twilight (which by the way, I’m totally over the hype). But that’s just my opinion, I guess. I didn’t mean to offend anyone--so sorry if I did. =(
