Review - Carpe Corpus by Rachel Caine

Carpe Corpus by Rachel Caine

Book Six in the Morganville Vampire series

Released: June 2009
Pages: 256
Publisher: Signet
Genre: Young Adult - Paranormal - Mystery/Thriller

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

In the small college town of Morganville, vampires and humans lived in (relative) peace-until all the rules got rewritten when the evil vampire Bishop arrived, looking for the lost book of vampire secrets. He's kept a death grip on the town ever since. Now an underground resistance is brewing, and in order to contain it, Bishop must go to even greater lengths. He vows to obliterate the town and all its inhabitants-the living and the undead. Claire Danvers and her friends are the only ones who stand in his way. But even if they defeat Bishop, will the vampires ever be content to go back to the old rules, after having such a taste of power?

---

With Claire and Michael both being forced to do Bishop's beckoning, Shame being locked up, and Eve...poor, poor Eve was left in the dust. I was pretty nervous for my favorite characters and what would happen between their relationships with so much going on. If you've read the series so far (which I hope you have because if you haven't started with Book One you shouldn't be reading this review) you can tell how the characters have grown. Every time there a scene between Shane and Claire came up, I got giggly. I think my character crush on Shane will never die. He is perfect in his Shane way.

One thing I can always trust with Rachel Caine's writing is that she keeps me on my toes. There are people/vampires in this series you trust one minute and the next you're going, wait what?! But with all the good guys and villians, there is one character in this series that drives me insane. I use to love to hate her, but now I just want her gone. I know it's good to have a mean girl villain, but Monica Morrell drives me insane! Every time she pops up in the story, I just want someone to knock her out.

Whatever complaints I had with the last installment, Carpe Corpus made up for it! It had the perfect twists and best ending. Besides Glass Houses, this is my new favorite installment out of the series. I cannot wait to read Fade Out and luckily for me, it comes out next month :)
