YA Book Carnival: Giveaway for Lock & Key by Sarah Dessen

Contest is now closed. Thanks to all that entered!

I'm sure a lot of you have heard about the YA Book Carnival that is going on over at Shooting Stars Magazine. I've posted some past giveaways up this week, but I wanted to throw in a Dessen book just for this event.

"Ruby, where is your mother?"

Ruby knows that the game is up. For the past few months, she's been on her own in the yellow house, managing somehow, knowing that her mother will probably never return. That's how she comes to live with Cora, the sister she hasn't seen in ten years, and Cora's husband Jamie, whose down-to-earth demeanor makes it hard for Ruby to believe he founded the most popular networking Web site around. A luxurious house, fancy private school, a new wardrobe, the promise of college and a future—it's a dream come true. So why is Ruby such a reluctant Cinderella, wary and defensive? And why is Nate, the genial boy next door with some secrets of his own, unable to accept the help that Ruby is just learning to give?

For your chance to win a hardback copy of Lock & Key, leave a comment with your email address telling what book you've read recently that completely blew you away. Mine is If I Stay by Gayle Forman.

For some extra entries:

+3 for being a follower prior to this post

+2 for becoming a new follower

+1 per place you link this contest up

One of my goddaughters is named Ruby, so if you can drop a title of another book with a character named Ruby in it, you will get +5.

Contest will end when the carnival ends: June 27th and it only open to those with a US or Canada mailing address

  4. Willow by Julia Hoban totally blew me away. It was way better than I expected it to be and I recommend it to everyone who likes to read serious books (it deals with death and cutting).

  5. My favorite Dessen novel to date! Unless I finally visit the bookstore and get Along for the Ride ;)

I was already a follower! Yeah, I'm glad I decided to follow after The Truth About Forever contest!

And a book that I recently read that completely blew me away was Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson. I found myself counting calories and weighing myself constantly after I finished it! I was definitely moved after finding myself in the shoes of a girl who has anorexia. It made me feel foolish to underestimate them just because they had an eating disorder.

  10. This is one of the few Sarah Dessen books I still haven't read. A book I've read recently that blew me away would have to be Thanks for the Memories by Cecelia Ahern. It was a much more emotional story than I thought it would be.

  31. One book I've read recently is Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater typically I'm not drawn to this type of book in that it's not entirely happy but there was this weirdly raw emotion in it that transfixed my attention plus the not so subtle pushing my sister gave me to finish the book, but hopefully i can move this book to the "blew me away" list
